Los cenotes eran de gran importancia para los antiguos mayas de la zona que utilizaban el cenote para lanzar mujeres vírgenes en sacrificio para contentar al Dios de la lluvia. Hoy se vuelve un lugar idóneo para que dejes volar la imaginación y encontrarse con uno mismo y con los antepasados. / The cenotes were of great importance to the ancient Maya of the area who used the cenote to throw virgin women in sacrifice to satisfy the God of rain. Algunos cenotes están habilitados para el turismo y poseen estupendos accesos, instalaciones con barandillas, plataformas para acomodarse, cuerdas para ir sujetándose y descansar mientras nadas y recorres sus amplios y profundos espacios de manera segura. / Some cenotes are enabled for tourism and have great access, facilities with railings, platforms to accommodate, ropes to hold and rest while swimming and travel its wide and deep spaces safely.

La mayoría de los cenotes abren al público de 10am – 5:00pm. Los precios de entrada varían según el tipo de cenote que sea pero va de $75 – $155 pesos. Puedes contratar un tour de snorkel o buceo en cenote con personal calificado y cuesta entre $400 –  $650 pesos. También hay agencias que ofrecen recorrido de 4 cenotes combinados con otras actividades como kayak, tirolesas, rappel y picnic. / Most of the cenotes open to the public from 10am – 5pm. The entrance prices vary according to the type of cenote that is but goes from $ 75 – $ 155 pesos. You can hire a snorkel or cenote dive tour with qualified personnel and cost between $ 400- $ 650 pesos. There are also agencies that offer a tour of 4 cenotes combined with other activities such as kayaking, zip lines, abseiling and picnics.

COMIDA – PROPINAS – AGUA / FOOD – TIPS – WATER

> Propinas: En México a diferencia de otros países, las propinas no están incluidas (excepto resorts all inclusive) y por eso acostumbramos a dejar siempre entre el 10% y 15% por un servicio recibido (restaurante, guias de tour, personal de hotel, etc) pero la propina siempre es voluntaria. / Tipping: In Mexico unlike other countries, tips are not included (except all inclusive resorts) and therefore we always leave between 10% and 15% for a service received (restaurant, tour guides, hotel staff , etc) but tip is always voluntary.

En México se acostumbra a dar propina para casi todo (en el supermercado hay gente de la tercera edad que te ayuda a guardar tus alimentos y a quienes se les da un par de monedas como agradecimiento. / In Mexico it is customary to tip for almost everything (in the supermarket there are seniors who help you store your food in bags and give you a couple of coins as a thank you.

En la gasera siempre serás atendido por una persona que te harán el servicio de llenar el tanque de gasolina a tu auto, cobrar y hasta limpiar los vidrios,  a ellos también les damos un par de monedas como propina).Pero repetimos, la cantidad la eliges tú y siempre es voluntaria. / In the gas station you will always be taken care of by a person who will do the service of filling the gas tank to your car, collect and even clean the glasses, we also give them a couple of coins as a tip). > Agua: En México el agua del tubo o de la llave NO SE BEBE. Siempre tendrás que comprar un galón para cocinar y beber agua limpia. Llena una botella desde casa y llévala contigo así ahorras. El agua en México no es gratis y no es potable (tristemente). / Water: From the tube or wrench DOES NOT DRINK. You will always have to buy a gallon to cook and drink water. > Supermercado: En Playa del Carmen hay supermercados en el centro (Walmart, Comercial Mexicana) abiertos de 8:00am a 11:00 pm. Puedes llegar a ellos caminando. / In Playa del Carmen there are supermarkets in the center (Walmart, Comercial Mexicana) open from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. You can reach them by walking.

>Comida Típica de la región: Cochinita Pibil, Pescado Tikin xic, Empanadas, Poc-chuck (carne de cerdo con frijoles), salbutes y panuchos; si lo consumes fuera del área turística el precio es muy barato ($) si lo consumes en la 5ta avenida será más caro ($$). / Typical food of the region: Cochinita Pibil, Fish Tikin xic, Empanadas, Poc-chuck (pork with beans), salbutes and panuchos; if you consume it outside the tourist area the price is very cheap ($) if you consume it in the 5th avenue will be more expensive ($$).

>Comida picante; cuando un mexicano te diga / Spicy food: When a mexican people tell you:

“No tiene chile” = Agarra la cuchara grande y come a placer la cantidad que quieras, realmente el platillo no tiene ningún picante. / “No tiene chile” = Eat at pleasure as much as you want. (Level -cero kids can eat)

“No pica”  = Tiene chile y pica de manera muy sutil, es bastante tolerante y es mas para resaltar el sabor (tranquilo te gustará) / “No pica” = Has chili and is little bit spicy but very tolerant (Level 1- tasty)

“Pica poquito” = Si Pica, si no estas acostumbrado posiblemente tengas que limpiar un poco tu nariz. / “Pica poquito” = Its Spicy and you may have to clean your nose at the end. (Level 2 moderate)

“Pica” = Pica mucho y tal vez no logres acabarte tu comida. / “Pica” = Very Spicy and maybe you do not manage to finish your food. (Level 3- For brave people)

“Si Pica” o “Pica mucho” = Es para guerreros! si no estas acostumbrado seguro caerás en llanto y sentirás demasiado calor. / “Si Pica” = Super Spicy…Fire!!! You will fall into tears if you are not used to it. (Level 4-For Masters)

>Tiendas de conveniencia: “OXXO” es una tiendita de productos muy básicos abierta las 24hrs. Venden alcohol con horarios restringidos. No venden frutas ni verduras. / Convenience stores: “OXXO” is a store of very basic products open 24 hours. They sell alcohol with restricted hours. They do not sell fruits or vegetables.

> Pasaporte y Visa: Todos los extranjeros necesitan entrar con pasaporte. Visa:Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua necesitan. El resto de los países recibe un permiso de 90 a 160 días expedido por migración al momento de ingresar al país. No se paga impuesto por entrar o salir del país. / Passport and Visa: All foreigners need to enter with passport. Visa: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua need the visa. The rest of the countries receive a permit of 90 to 160 days issued by migration at the moment of entering the country. No tax is paid on entering or leaving the country.

> Tarjetas de crédito: Se aceptan en casi todos los establecimientos de la zona turística. En la zona urbana es más común el pago en efectivo. Cuando entregues tu tarjeta de crédito no la pierdas de vista. /  Credit cards: Accepted in almost all establishments in the tourist area. In the urban area cash payment is more common. When you give your credit card keep your eyes on it!.

> Cajeros Automáticos: Sobre la 5ta avenida hay muchos cobran comisión alta de $90 pesos por transacción. También hay bancos con cajeros automáticos que cobra menos comisión $35 pesos por transacción. / ATMs: On the 5th avenue there are many machines with high commission of $ 90 pesos per transaction. There are also banks with ATMs that charges less commission $ 35 pesos per transaction.

AEROPUERTOS Y TRANSPORTES PARA LLEGAR A PLAYA DEL CARMEN /  AIRPORT  TRANSPORTATION TO ARRIVE TO PLAYA DEL CARMEN

> Aeropuertos en la Riviera Maya: Aeropuerto Internacional de Cancún ( a 45min de Playa del Carmen sobre la carretera)  y el Aeropuerto  internacional de Cozumel( a 30min de Playa del Carmen cruzando en Ferry). / Airports in the Riviera Maya: Cancun International Airport (45 minutes from Playa del Carmen on the highway) and Cozumel International Airport (30 minutes from Playa del Carmen by Ferry).

> Como llegar a Playa del Carmen desde el aeropuerto: El medio más económico es el Autobus ADO, con partidas cada 30min que del estacionamiento del aeropuerto y el boleto se compra ahí mismo. Hay autobuses desde las 5:00am y el último sale a la medianoche. Puedes consultar la página de ADO para checar horarios y precios actualizados./ How to get to Playa del Carmen from the airport: The most economical means is the ADO Bus, with departures every 30min from the airport parking lot and buy the ticket right there. There are buses from 5:00 am and the last one leaves at midnight. You can check the ADO website to check times and prices updated.

*Shuttle compartido: Con 10-12 personas tienen un costo mayor al autobus,  te dejan en la puerta de tu hotel pero posiblemente llegues muy tarde y des vueltas por toda la ciudad haciendo un viaje mas cansado además es probable que tengas que esperar a que el shuttle se llene. El precio va desde 200 pesos mínimo. / Shared Shuttle: With 10-12 people have a higher cost comparing to the bus, they leave you at the door of your hotel but possibly arrive late and go around the city,  making a trip more tired and you probably have to wait until the shuttle is full. The price ranges from $200 pesos minimum.

*Transportación Privada: Contrátala a través de tu hotel. Sin duda la más conveniente y segura, se recomienda si vienen en grupos, en familia o con bebés. El precio va desde $1,500 pesos en adelante para un máximo de 8 personas, que divido entre todos es casi como un autobús pero privado y mucho más cómodo. Hay transportes para menos gente y el precio cambia. El servicio suele ser bueno y te dejan en la puerta de tu hotel, otra ventaja es que si tu vuelo tuvo un atraso ellos dan seguimiento y esperan a tu llegada. / * Private Transportation: Contract it through your hotel. Without a doubt the most convenient and safe, it is recommended if you come in groups, in family or with babies. The price goes from $ 1,500 pesos onwards for a maximum of 8 people, which if you divide between all is almost like a bus but private and much more comfortable. There are transports for less people and the price changes. The service is usually good and they leave you at the door of your hotel, another advantage is that if your flight had a delay they follow up and wait for your arrival.

*Taxis de aeropuerto: Son los más caros, no tienen una tarifa específica y el servicio no es el más amable (sinceramente tienen mala fama por subir precios a extranjeros) por 3 personas en auto el precio va desde los $850 pesos en adelante y en camioneta tipo “van” es más del doble de precio para un máximo de 8 personas. Poco lo recomendamos aunque si llegas de madrugada será el único medio que tengas para llegar si no contrataste la transportación privada./ Airport taxis: They are the most expensive, do not have a specific rate and the service is not the friendliest (honestly they have bad reputation for raising prices to foreigners) for 3 people in car the price goes from $ 850 pesos onwards and in Van it is more than double the price for a maximum of 8 people. > Clima en el Caribe mexicano: 26ºC (normal) y 33ºC (en verano). Los meses de lluvia son  Mayo y Septiembre (22ªC). En Playa del Carmen el clima es caluroso/húmedo la mayor parte del año./ Climate in the Mexican Caribbean: 26ºC (normal) and 33ºC (in summer). The rainy months are May and September (22 ° C). In Playa del Carmen the weather is hot / humid most of the year.

> Huracanes: La temporada comienza en Mayo y termina en Noviembre. Los meses más comunes de formación de huracán son Agosto y Octubre (pero relájate! llevamos 10 años sin la entrada de un huracán en Playa del Carmen, no cambies tu plan y  ven a disfrutar!!)./ Hurricanes: The season starts in May and ends in November. The most common months of hurricane formation are August and October (but relax! We’ve had 10 years without a hurricane in Playa del Carmen, do not change your plan and come to enjoy !!).

> Ropa: Para visitar Playa del Carmen te recomendamos traer ropa ligera, sandalias, traje de baño, bloqueador solar  biodegradable, calzado ligero, lentes de sol, gorra o sombrero, pero la mejor prenda es sin duda tu entusiasmo de vivir esta experiencia así que no olvides empacarla!! / Clothing: To visit Playa del Carmen we recommend you to bring light clothing, sandals, swimming suit, biodegradable sunscreen, light footwear, sunglasses, cap or hat, but the best garment is your enthusiasm to live this experience so do not forget to pack it !!
